A Typical Safari Day

1

Wake Up Call (~5:00 AM)

Your guide will wake you with a gentle knock or phone call. The early start is worth it—wildlife is most active in the cool morning hours. You'll receive a quick wake-up beverage (coffee or tea) before heading out.

Keep warm clothes beside your bed for those chilly mornings!

2

Morning Game Drive (~5:30 - 9:30 AM)

Load into the safari vehicle and head into the bush. Your guide will navigate based on animal tracks, calls, and their knowledge of the land. You'll stop at a scenic spot for a nature break and possibly a morning snack.

What you might see: Giraffes heading to breakfast, elephants crossing plains, lions finishing a hunt, or a leopard draped across a branch.

3

Breakfast at the Lodge (~9:30 - 10:30 AM)

Return to the lodge for a proper breakfast. Most lodges serve a full cooked breakfast with fresh fruit, pastries, and hot options. Take this time to unwind, rest, and process the morning's sightings.

4

Midday Rest (~10:30 AM - 4:00 PM)

This is peak napping weather. Animals rest during the heat of the day, and so should you. Read a book on your private deck, take a dip in the pool, or simply enjoy the sounds of the bush.

Lunch is usually served around 1:00 PM.

5

Afternoon Game Drive (~4:00 - 7:30 PM)

Head out again as the day's heat fades. Late afternoon is often spectacular—wildlife emerges, predators become active, and the golden sunset creates perfect photography conditions. Your guide will find a scenic spot for sundowners.

6

Dinner & Evening (~7:30 PM onwards)

Enjoy a three-course dinner, often served al fresco under the stars. After dinner, relax by the fire with a drink, share stories with fellow guests, and get some rest—tomorrow brings more adventures!

What You'll Actually See

One of the most common questions first-timers ask is: "Will we definitely see animals?" The honest answer is yes—but what you see depends on the season, luck, and the magic of the bush.

🦓 What You're Almost Guaranteed to See

  • Giraffe
  • Zebra
  • Impala
  • Greater Kudu
  • Blue Wildebeest
  • Warthog
  • Vervet monkeys
  • Various bird species

🐆 What You Might (With Some Luck) See

  • Leopard
  • Lion (on Kruger day trips)
  • Elephant (on Kruger day trips)
  • Spotted Hyena
  • Eland

Photography Tips for First-Timers

  • Best light: early morning and late afternoon
  • Use burst mode for moving animals
  • Silence your phone during drives
  • Keep your lens cap handy for dusty roads
  • Don't worry about having a fancy camera—a smartphone works great!

Safari Rules & Etiquette

Following these guidelines keeps everyone safe, ensures a great experience for all guests, and—most importantly—respects the wildlife you're there to see.

Noise

  • • Keep voices low during game drives
  • • Silence your phone completely
  • • Avoid sudden loud sounds that could startle animals
  • • Turn off camera beep sounds

What's Off-Limits

  • • Never exit the safari vehicle in the bush
  • • Don't feed any animals
  • • No flash photography
  • • Don't touch or approach any wildlife

Timing

  • • Be ready 5 minutes before scheduled pickup
  • • Return from drives on time
  • • Never wander alone outside the lodge area
  • • Follow your guide's instructions immediately

Respect

  • • Let your guide focus on driving and spotting
  • • Follow their instructions without question in emergencies
  • • Be patient—wildlife doesn't perform on schedule
  • • Share the experience with other guests

The golden rule: Your guide has extensive training and knowledge. If they say "don't do something"—don't. Their top priority is your safety and the wellbeing of the wildlife around you.
